About Us

The Melbreak Communities comprises the four parishes of Blindbothel, Buttermere, Lorton and Loweswater, just south of Cockermouth in West Cumbria, which have come together to produce a Community Action Plan. As part of this programme, this community website was started in May 2010 with the aim of providing a unique, point source of information for people living or working in or visiting the area.

If anyone has any comments about the website or any news to pass on or ask questions about anything, the best thing to do is to post a message on the Message Board. On some pages (eg Community Plan), you can post messages specific to that subject. Alternatively, you can pass on news by email to the administrator from the Contact page. If you can’t find something on the site, try the Search button at the bottom of every page. If you find a link that is broken, please let me know by email.

Use of this site

Since we started in May 2010, there have been over 150,000 page viewings and the average is now about 50 per day. After the Home page the next most visited pages are: Message Board, Lorton Parish Council, Loweswater Village Hall, The Link and then then the three churches. Naturally, our viewers come predominantly from the UK followed by the United States, Canada, Ireland, India and the Turks & Caicos Islands!
