The Melbreak Communities comprises the four parishes of Blindbothel, Buttermere, Lorton and Loweswater, just south of Cockermouth in West Cumbria, which have come together to produce a Community Action Plan. As part of this programme, this community website was started in May 2010 with the aim of providing a unique, point source of information for people living or working in or visiting the area.
If anyone has any comments about the website or any news to pass on or ask questions about anything, the best thing to do is to post a message on the Message Board. On some pages (eg Community Plan), you can post messages specific to that subject. Alternatively, you can pass on news by email to the administrator from the Contact page. If you can’t find something on the site, try the Search button at the bottom of every page. If you find a link that is broken, please let me know by email.
The Melbreak Communities organises monthly ‘Coffee and Cake’ mornings on a middle Saturday of every month at Yew Tree Hall, Lorton from 10.30-12 noon.
Come and join others for delicious home made refreshments – you are also welcome to bring surplus produce to sell and books that you’ve read to swap for some you haven’t! See the Local Events page for details.
Use of this site
Since we started in May 2010, there have been over 40,000 page viewings and the average is now about 50 per day. Not surprisingly, the most popular page is this one, the Home page, but, perhaps surprisingly, the next most visited page is the one on Himalayan Balsam followed by the Message Board and Local Events pages. Naturally, our viewers come predominantly from the UK followed by the United States, Malaysia, India, Singapore and Canada plus odd ones from Bhutan and Afghanistan!
